We already reviewed Coriolanus back in February but as part of the build up to its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and its eventual theatrical release at the end of the year, we have a new UK trailer for the film for your viewing pleasure.
First time director Ralph Fiennes, also starring in the lead role, takes on the literary legend that is William Shakespeare with an adaptation of his play Coriolanus. Fiennes has gathered a rather impressive supporting cast which includes Gerard Butler, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave, Jessica Chastain (The Tree of Life), James Nesbitt and Ashraf Barhom (The Kingdom).
Here's the synopsis:
Coriolanus (Fiennes), a hero of Rome, is a great soldier but despises the people. His extreme views ignite a mass riot and he is banished from Rome. Coriolanus allies with a sworn enemy (Butler) to take his revenge on the city.
John Logan is the screenwriter, someone not exactly known for subtlety in his screenplays (just look at Gladiator, The Last Samurai and Sweeney Todd) but in this particular case maybe that's the best thing for the story. I'm not a fan of the heavy rock music utilized in the trailer but that's the type of vibe that'll sell it to the general public.
Watch the trailer below. Coriolanus opens in the U.S. on December 2nd, 2011 and in the UK on January 20th, 2012. Could we be looking at an Oscar nomination for Fiennes?
