It seems fair to say that the 2011 edition of the SXSW Film Festival was dominated by a pair of genre offerings from the UK. There was Joe Cornish's Attack The Block, a fabulously fun scifi-action-horror hybrid. And then there was Ben Wheatley's Kill List, a film that sets you up to believe it is one thing before morphing into something darker and more surprising altogether. It's a powerhouse film, one that may not be for everyone but will burn a hole into a great many viewers' brains and develop a strong and loyal cult.
Kill List is a film that resists easy description - and is far better experience knowing as little as possible - so we will leave it at that. But UK distributors Optimum sent out a press release today announcing that the full trailer would be arriving online July 20th and they delivered the first teaser - a truly creepy little affair - to whet the appetite. Check it below.Eight months after a disastrous job in Kiev left him physically and mentally scarred, ex-soldier turned contract killer Jay (Maskell), is pressured by his partner Gal (Smiley), into taking a new assignment. The film follows as they descend into the dark, disturbing world of the contract, Jay begins to unravel once again -- his fear and paranoia sending him deep into the heart of darkness.
