How's this for a collision of talents? Writer-director Charlie Kaufman is looking to move ahead with his second directorial effort Frank Or Francis and is in the process of nailing down Steve Carell, Jack Black and Nicolas Cage to star.
We already know perfectly well that Cage works in Kaufman's peculiar worlds thanks to Adaptation - in which Cage plays a sort of neurotic caricature of Kaufman himself - so it's Steve Carell and Jack Black that are the interesting factors here. Carell I think is an obvious choice, and a fantastic one. And Black? Well, Black's been flat out horrible lately but it's also been a long, long time since he worked with a decent script and talent behind the camera so Kaufman may very well be able to return him to earlier form.
Very little is known about the story so far - as is typical of any project Kaufman is involved in - but it is currently going out to independent financiers with an eye to start up as soon as possible. We've been hearing unconfirmed rumblings here at ScreenAnarchy that Kaufman may no longer be involved with the upcoming Spike Jonze project and if that is true - which I have my doubts about - then this film would be the reason why.
