Fassbinder's WORLD ON A WIRE Coming To The TIFF Bell Lightbox June 17th And 19th

Take note, Toronto area cinephiles and scifi geeks: A seldom seen classic is coming to the TIFF Bell Lightbox and you've got just two chances to see it.

Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 1973 science fiction effort World On A Wire - originally produced for German TV and very nearly lost - has been rediscovered and remastered and it will come to life on the big screen here in Toronto on June 17th and 19th only. Here's how the Lightbox folk describe it:

World on a Wire's Dr. Fred Stiller (a swaggering Klaus Lowistch in a too-tight suit) is a scientist at the Institute for Cybernetics and Futurology, who begins to doubt the benign nature of the company's supercomputer, which was created to forecast human behaviour in the real world. When a colleague dies under mysterious circumstances, Stiller is led down a path of hallucinatory and inchoate madness as reality and simulacrum become increasingly confounded. Oozing with stops-out style and rococo visual obfuscations, World on a Wire quotes both Josef von Sternberg and James Bond while indulging in Fassbinder's signature brand of reckless malaise and melancholic camp.
