Earlier this month we commented on the growing Indonesian trend of casting foreign porn stars in their films as a way of boosting notoriety. It's a pretty cheap way to titillate the audience with the promise of the forbidden as Indonesia's anti-porn laws are very strict and the followings these women have are driven entirely by word of mouth in the underground black market. And it's an easy payday for the actresses as well because - thanks again to those laws - they don't even have to get naked, never mind engaging in the sort of behavior that made them famous in the first place.
When we wrote that previous post the porn queen in question was Japan's Sola (Sora) Aoi but now America's own Sasha Grey is getting in on the act, too. Yes, the continued US porn career and roles in arthouse films such as The Girlfriend Experience and I Melt With You are evidently not enough for Grey as she now features prominently in Indonesian horror-comedy Pocong Mandi Goyang Pinggul.
The producers are making a big deal of Grey's presence, declaring on the poster that the film was shot both in Indonesia and "Hollywood, Amerika", but what has clearly happened here is that they just sent a camera operator to the US to shoot Grey for a day or two and then cut that footage in to what seems to be an entirely unrelated story set in Indonesia. And the results look unintentionally hilarious.
The trailer for the film - embedded below - makes it clear that no attempt has been made to match the footage from the two shoots at all. We get Grey's stuff early on, the actress gyrating and lifting her skirt as though she's going to show off the goods before delivering a wildly insincere comment about how she loves Indonesian culture. Smash cut to Indonesian culture, namely a midget being shoved in a cooking pot and a man being frightened so badly that he pisses in a pocong's face. This, clearly, is a film best described as 'classy'. Marvel at the madness below.
