Here's the thing about apartment buildings: They provide ghosts with plenty of places to hide. Director Topel Lee knows that fact well and he looks to be taking great advantage of it with his upcoming horror picture Tumbok.
While the plot appears standard enough - it revolves around a young married couple who move in to a haunted building - these things are all about the director's skill in execution and Lee is skilled, indeed. Long considered one of the most purely talented directors in the Philippines Lee has been, as often as not, limited by the conditions both budgetary and otherwise forced upon him by the local studio system but talent is talent and he's obviously got it.
The first trailer for this is freshly arrived and it is elegant, haunting stuff. Lee's shot composition and camera movements all just say class and the atmosphere is impressive. The only down sides here are the lack of English subtitles and the fact that producers Viva Entertainment have put a version of the trailer online that has clearly had the colors somewhat washed out, thereby taking away some of the impact of the cinematography. But still, it's impressive.
