Watch The Opening Scene Of Jeff Barnaby's Brilliant, Genie Nominated Short FILE UNDER MISCELLANEOUS

One of my most pleasant surprises of 2010 - if pleasant is a word that can be safely used in association with this film - was Jeff Barnaby's File Under Miscellaneous. A short film that debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival and is now freshly nominated for a Genie Award - Canada's national film awards - the picture is a darkly satiric commentary on race relations shot through with jet black humor and positively dazzling art direction. Here's the official synopsis:

Set in a dystopic metropolitan hellscape, a spiritually exhausted and destitute Mi'gMaq man has resolved to assimilate into the ruling culture. He visits a surgical clinic - the display window littered with skin and limb samples - and undergoes a gruesome procedure to rid him of his red skin.
Barnaby, to my mind, is one of the most exciting young film makers that we have in Canada right now and I've been itching for the chance to share some of this film with ScreenAnarchy readers. Well, that time is now as the opening minute and a half have been posted online. Check the video below.
