Could Eddie Alcazar's 0000 Be The Next π?

[Our earlier gallery now updated with five additional exclusive stills.]

It does my heart good to see that independent science fiction is back in favor, the door slowly opening again to admit serious minded, high end speculative fiction. Moon seems to have been the trigger point for the current wave with Rian Johnson's Looper the bigger title I'm most keeping my eye on.

But what of the small stuff? What's the next Pi? Or the next Primer? My money says that film is Eddie Alcazar's 0000.

Pronounced simply Zero, the film tells the story of a man who creates a man-machine interface not to dive into some technological alternate reality a la Neuromancer but as a means to creating a collective consciousness, a means of connecting to real people to cover up the hole left by a massive personal loss.

Shot in high contrast with the created technology bearing at least a marginal resemblance to tefillin this one could be a direct line descendant of Pi should Alcazar pull it off.

The mind of one man will galvanize a global revolution. His technology will birth a new era of human existence and social connection, but this great gift is rooted in dark tragedy. If he is to survive, he will need the help of many, and if we are to survive, our awareness must grow.

We were hugely enthusiastic about the concept reel when we first came across it back in August and now Alcazar has finished his first block of principal photography and is slowly trickling out images on the film's official Facebook page. One thing seems clear: director of photography Matthias Koenigswieser is a bloody genius.

We're including the sales reel again below so you can take a look if you missed it the first time. The stills are in the gallery below that.
