We won't call you Shirley, Leslie, but we will miss you.
Airplane! and Naked Gun leading man Leslie Nielsen has died in hospital of pneumonia brought on by a staph infection. He was 84.
Sure, you can argue that Nielsen had a very singular style and that he was little more than a one trick pony but his pony knew a damn good trick and at his peak Nielsen starred in a string of absolute classic comedies. Ironically the man is the most recognizable face of a very distinctly American brand of comedy despite actually being Canadian.
I don't know about you but at my next available opportunity I plan to crack open a beer and pop Airplane! into the player to say a fond farewell to one of the funniest men my country ever produced. It seems a fitting send off.
