You know what this world needs? More independent action films. Enough with the bad moc-doc horror, people. Everybody and their brother has made one of those now and most of them are just horrid. Let's have more manly men with fully automatic weaponry instead. Manly men raised on the likes of First Blood. That'd be nice.
This general feeling is why I'm thinking happy thoughts about Neil Mackay's Skeleton Lake. Yes, there are some obvious bumps and flaws in the trailer. That's clear. But what's also clear is that he's trying something that nobody in particular has touched for quite a while in the indie scene and he's doing a pretty decent job of it. The cinematography's good, the lead is a grizzled war vet, and the first teaser features both fully automatic machine guns and a bazooka. Bazooka is a fun word to say and they cause mass destruction in a way that is pleasing to the eye. There should be more bazookas in films. Check the teaser below!
