SULTAN: THE WARRIOR Is A Rajnikanth Family Affair

I love Rajni.  If you click on my byline, that should become obvious.  I did not know until recently, however, that his talents are genetic.  About 3 years ago Soundarya Rajnikanth, the Superstar's daughter, began work with Dad on Sultan: The Warrior, a 3-D animated period epic starring a CG version of the big guy and scored by frequent collaborator, A.R. Rahman, who is currently touring the USA.  There isn't a whole lot of info on this movie out there.  They've been working on it for a while, but the failure of Disney/Yash Raj Films Roadside Romeo made all of the studios wary of putting big budget animated films in cinemas in India.  Apparently, that wariness is wearing off.

Sultan is billing itself as India's Biggest 3D Animated Feature Film.  They wear that title with honor.  The latest news is that Soundarya, who has previously worked in much smaller capacities animated parts of her father's films, wants the film to split between full CG animation and live action portion, enlisting RS Ravikumar, the director of Kamal Haasan's big budget showpiece Dasavathaaram, to helm the live action scenes.

My guess is now that Enthiran is getting ready to release any day now, and Soundarya's big wedding (trust me, it was huge news) has become history, I'd say that father and daughter will be getting back to this one in by early next year.  We can only hope.

FYI, this trailer is 2 years old.   As soon as something better and newer shows up, rest assured, it'll be here.
