The remake of The Karate Kid hits theaters tomorrow and so it is the subject of my weekly column at Showcase this week. Head over there for the full review but, in short, though the title is nonsense since they're all doing kung fu - a fact the movie itself explicitly acknowledges - once you get past that it's good. Really good. Better than the original by a comfortable margin, I'd say, and boasting what is certainly the best English language dramatic performance of Jackie Chan's career and possibly the best overall regardless of language. And, yes, the asshat comment in the review is directed at certain people in the comment thread here last time I posted about the film.
