Writer-director-star Miranda July made a big impression with her 2005 debut Me And You And Everyone We Know, one of the more awkward romantic comedies of recent years, and now the auteur of clumsy relationships ends her lengthy hiatus with The Future. No trailer or release date yet but the film has just wrapped photography and been picked up for world sales by The Match Factory in Cannes. Here's what we know:
Cannes - May 18, 2010 - The Match Factory is pleased to announce the acquisition of Miranda July's (ME AND YOU AND EVERYONE WE KNOW) latest film THE FUTURE, which has recently concluded principal photography in Los Angeles.
Starring Miranda July and Hamish Linklater (FANTASTIC FOUR, CBS' "The New Adventures of Old Christine"), THE FUTURE tells the story of Sophie and Jason, a 30-something couple whose relationship is jeopardized because of the dream-like state of their life together. Miranda July says: "We haunt oursevles, googling our own name, perpetually clicking on search - because if we're always searching then we never have to notice that we've found it, we're there, this is really it."
The film is produced by Gina Kwon (USA), and Gerhard Meixner and Roman Paul of Razor Film (Germany) in co-operation with Film4 (UK). North American rights are repped by UTA, while French distribution rights were already picked up by Haut et Court.
This is July's second feature film after 2005's ME AND YOU AND EVERYONE WE KNOW, which she wrote, directed and starred in, and which Kwon also produced. Her debut feature won a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and four prizes at the Cannes Film Festival, including the Camera d'Or for Best First Feature film.
