With the western once again coming into fashion one thing there has been a surprising lack of is the intentional cult western - the full out shamelessly exploitative, wild ride of an action film western. Well, hello, The Last Rites of Ransom Pride ...
When producers welcome comparisons to the likes of Peckinpah and Tarantino they are setting the bar rather high for themselves, but Last Rites looks as though it may deliver. For one thing, the production values are stellar. For another, the dialog crackles and the action looks to be fast and thick and stylish. But mostly, the simple fact that this world is populated by the likes of Dwight Yoakam, Kris Kristofferson, Peter Dinklage and, hell, even a familiar face from Deadwood - brilliant character actors, every one of them - is enough to immediately make this one to look out for. Hell, just look at Dinklage in that photo. Who wouldn't want to see that in action?
