How's this for an odd statement: A Canadian comedy about a high school kid who believes he is the reincarnation of Leon Trotsky took the Audience Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival this year. That Canadians would make a communist themed comedy is odd enough, that the Japanese would find it funny strikes me as even odder.
The film is Jacob Tierney's The Trotsky, and after appearances at the Toronto, Whistler and Tokyo fests it is now gearing up for a spring release here in Canada. Which means maybe the clip that just appeared online will actually stay online for a while, unlike the trailer that appeared and disappeared in a flash during TIFF. What do we get? A one on one between Jay Baruchel and Colm Feore as the Communist leader reborn and his high school principal, respectively. Enjoy.
