Mexico Turns Dystopic In 2033

Full disclosure:  Francisco Laresgoiti's 2033 is a film that I've been aware of for quite some time thanks to some extensive coverage over at Quiet Earth but despite their early enthusiasm this was one that I held back from thanks to what appeared to be some unfinished - and unimpressive - post work in the early clips and teasers for the film.  Well, the final, official trailer has just released and while I don't think I'd ever say a film as dystopic as this one had cleaned up real pretty the rough edges have certainly been buffed off.

Apparently based somewhat on the events of Mexico's Cristero War, the film posits a future of unrest and revolution with the poor masses rising up against a wealthy upper class.  The debut feature from Laresgoiti - an accomplished commercial and music video director - 2033 finds a very different aesthetic for its proceedings, putting a distinctly Mexican spin on the future.  Check the trailer below.
