Details are still quite sketchy but word began to circulate late last week that Japanese action star Tak Sakaguchi's current film project has taken him outside of his regular environs and all the way to the Ukraine.
Though there is not yet an official English title for the film we have confirmed that Sakaguchi has been hired both as actor and action director for a new international production from Sergei Bodrov and Guka Omarova. Regular collaborators, Bodrov is best known in these parts as the director of the Tadanobu Asano-starring epic Mongol - a film that Omarova directed second unit for. For her part, Omarova won much love on the festival circuit as the writer and director of Baksy - or Native Dancer - which Bodrov produced and co-wrote.
Who is filling what role on this film is not quite clear yet but the picture involves a yakuza element, which is almost certainly where Sakaguchi is being employed. More details as we get them.
