Teaser for Kim Tae-Gyun's 彼岸島 (Higanjima) is Out

Few directors in Korea are as hard to define as Kim Tae-Gyun is. After the overlong but creative live action manhwa vibes of 화산고 (Volcano High), he went on to helm two consecutive teen-oriented flicks, the adaptation of popular online novel 늑대의 유혹 (Romance of Their Own) and melodrama 백만장자의 첫사랑 (A Millionaire's First Love). Then, after taking part in a pair of omnibus projects, he returned with 크로싱 (Crossing) starring Cha In-Pyo, painting the plight of a North Korean defector looking for his son. Sure enough, his next project is again completely different. Kim is in fact directing the Japan-Korea co-production 彼岸岛 (Higanjima), adapted from Matsumoto Koji's original manga.

The Higan (Island) of the title is a mysterious place populated by vampires, a place Akira and his friends decide to head for, after learning that his brother had last been spotted there. Starring Ishiguro Hideo, Watanabe Dai and Yamamoto Koji (sporting a blonde wig?!), Higanjima releases in January 2010. Teaser is still very coy about the whole ordeal, but is nonetheless worth a look.
