Formerly successful painter David (Mads Mikkelsen) has lost control of his life after being responsible for the death of his seven-year-old daughter Leonie through a fatal decision. One day, five years later, he discovers a door which will give him the opportunity to start all over again. However, what initially appears to be a wonderful chance for a new beginning soon turns out to be a veritable horror scenario, since not everything in the past is quite as it seems.
Germany's Anno Saul first came to our attention a couple years back as the director of Turko-German kung fu tinged action dramedy The Kebab Connection and up next for Saul is thriller The Door (Die Tur), with Danish star Mads Mikkelsen - increasingly making use of his multiple languages to take roles farther afield. While sales agents Telepool are proving incredibly stingy - the film is complete and they had a promo in Cannes but refused to show it to anyone other than buyers - what scraps have emerged are looking very compelling. Fantastic star, fantastic premise and while most of the images in the sales flyer are too small to be of much use I do have one very tasty one in the gallery linked below.
