You know, if not for the fact that nobody here can pronounce his name correctly, Russian director Timur Bekmambetov wouldn't be all that far away from becoming a household name. The director triggered the current wave of Russian genre film with his hugely successful Night Watch films before crossing over to Hollywood to similarly huge success at the controls of Wanted and is sharing producer credits with Tim Burton on upcoming - and very, very anticipated - post-apocalyptic animated feature 9.
But as busy as Bekmambetov may be in Hollywood he hasn't turned his back on his homeland, still actively developing projects back in Russia as both director and producer. And one of his upcoming production efforts is Black Lightning (Chornaya Molniya). Due for release in December the film is ... well, it's about a kid with a flying car. Here's how our regular eye in Russia, Vladimir, describes it:
This story is about how usual student of Moscow University becomes the owner of ordinary, from the first sight, pretty much been-used, but ... able to fly "Volga" car. With this car he will be able not only avoid Moscow traffic jams, but unexpectedly for himself he will turn to city's defender, mysterious fighter against Evil.
The first teaser has just arrived and while it is very much a tease I absolutely love the retro-future look of it. Very nice. Check it out below the break!
