Simon's Dozen: The 12 Films I'm Gunning for at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival

Hey there, sports fans, long time, no talk. I just got the good word about being accredited at this year's Tribeca Film Festival so you better believe that I've by now not only highlighted the films I would be willing to see--28 in total--and narrowed those down to a dozen that I can make the press screenings of. It looks like a good line-up this year, filled with titles we've been talking about on this here site, like In the Loop and Black Dynamite so click after the jump to see the dozen I'm really gunning for this year.

12) Hysterical Psycho--looks like a campy horror comedy with a Raimian influence about a theater troupe in a cabin in the woods but otherwise, I have no idea.

11) House of the Devil--a babysitter finds out something freaky about the people she's...babysitting for, I guess.

10) My Dear Enemy--a South Korean romantic comedy about two ex-lovers on a road trip starring Jeon Do-youn and Ha Jung-woo.

9) Rudo y Cursi--a quirktastic comedy by Carlos CuarĂ³n that reteams Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna.

8) Don McKay--a "darkly comic thriller" starring Thomas Haden Church and Melissa Leo about a man who returns home after 25 years to find that things have changed? Okey doke.

7) Newsmakers--Russian remake of Johnnie To's Breaking News.

6) Paintball--as near as I can tell, a serious thriller about a game of paintball that goes horribly wrong.

5) Departures--the Japanese drama that upset the few people that still care to bet money on the Oscars when it won in the Best Foreign Language category this year.

4) In the Loop--new political comedy by British comedian Armando Iannucci

3) Black Dynamite--nuf said.

2) Moon--Sam Rockwell...in spaaaaace!

1) The Eclipse--a film by playwright Conor McPherson, whose Seafarer was contrived but exceedingly well-acted and bristling with prickly humor.

Stay tuned because there may be more unlisted titles found in the screener booths!
