News on this actually broke a couple days ago but I've been away from my cold northern homeland for a little while and am just now playing catch up upon my return. Produced in Ottawa, Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer isn't quite a local product but, heck, it's close enough to provoke a rare swelling of patriotic pride. The story of a plumber who awakens an ancient evil and must do battle with a horde of monsters, the film stars horror icon Robert Englund and has had us buzzing around here for a while. The production designs were great, the trailer was better, and after a successful run at the just completed Slamdance it has been announced that Anchor Bay has picked up rights to the film in a good sized deal that includes a commitment to screen it theatrically. So, if you find yourself besieged by monsters, just try and hold out a little while longer: Jack Brooks is coming to town.
