Okay, this one takes a bit of explaining. InsomniFest is a new horror film festival sponsored by Slasherpool, which is nothing to revolutionary in itself, but where things get a little bit different is that this is a purely online film festival with titles available only for online viewing over a two week period in February of 2008. I'm not entirely convinced by the business model but they've just announced their first title and it's an interesting choice: Indonesian ghost story Dead Floor (Tantei 13).
Indonesia cranks out a lot of horror films and most of them are quite bad but every now and then they turn out a gem and this looks to be one of the better ones, more focused on character and atmosphere than most and the production design and cinematography are certainly far better than what you usually see from the region. Here's a synopsis:
Luna has just gotten her first job as a secretery for a major company in Jakarta. She's got her own desk, new good friends and a seemingly friendly boss. There's only one problem. Ever since Luna started working for the firm, she's been having horrifying visions and she's certain that something happened on the 13th floor of the building. However, everyone in the building claims that there isn't a thirteenth floor, there's not even a button for it in the elevator so how could this be? As Luna seeks help from her understanding boyfriend, she discovers that her hunch may have been right, but she has no idea what terrors are ahead of her...
