A page for Jag Mundhra's Backwaters has been added to GOMORRAHY.com; included on it are a trailer, twenty stills, and four posters for the movie, as well as an exclusive set of caps from that trailer. The movie is scheduled to be screened at the Sixth Annual IAAC Film Festival in New York City on November 5th; it's to be the festival's closing night film.
As was previously reported here on ScreenAnarchy, the screenplay for Backwaters was written by Carl Austin and Sameer Ketkar, based on a story by Mundhra. The movie stars Nicholas Irons as Andy Becker, Tamzin Outhwaite as Lili Taylor, Jason Flemyng as Jason Weiss, Gulshan Grover as Suresh Menon, Sandra Teles as Sara Varghese, & Milind Gunaji as Thomas Varghese.
Here's a synopsis for Backwaters from the production: "A wealthy British couple. Andy Becker (Nicholas Irons), a writer, and Lili Taylor (Tamzin Outhwaite), a soap-opera star, get into a car accident while returning home from a big party at the sprawling estate of Lili's brother, Jason Weiss (Jason Flemying). The accident leaves Lili paralyzed below the waist, while Andy, who was driving, miraculously escapes unhurt. With a rocky marriage, the couple arrives in Kerala, India for alternative herbal treatments for Lili. A masseuse is hired, and Lili starts to show significant improvement. Andy takes this opportunity to go for walks along the backwaters. During one such stroll, he meets an attractive, dusky young woman, Sara Varghese (Sandra Teles), and a lovers' tryst begins every afternoon. Upon returning to his houseboat one such evening, he finds his wife has gone missing. After a frantic search, her body is found caught in the nets of the local fisherman. Andy becomes the prime suspect for murder, as he was the beneficiary of a large life insurance policy on his wife. He is interrogated by the local police superintendent, Suresh Menon (Gulshan Grover). His only saviour could be an alibi from Sara, who is unable to tell the truth because her husband, Thomas Varghese (Milind Gunaji), a fisherman, has just returned from the sea. Will Andy be charged with murder? Who really killied Lili? Will Sara give an alibi? The answers lie in the murky backwaters."
Those who are interested in Backwaters may wish to watch the trailer for Darrell Michael's horror movie Cryptid, which Teles also stars in. (Note: I suspect that "Darrell Michael" is a pseudonym for Darrell James Roodt and Michael D. Sellers.)
