IVL & Kadokawa / Daiei : Monthly Batches of HK DVDs for Japanese Films.

Not going to find it that easy to point out everything worth looking into here, so there's some clearly of interest I will mention briefly and the rest will be down to individuals interest in looking into what's possibly coming - for the rest, to clarify your own interest in these films, worth visiting the source link at the bottom of the post.

Some of these initial DVD announcements overlap with films we have already seen released in America on R1 USA DVD, some though are firsts as far as I can tell. Oh, and as Muldoon rightly points out in this revelation at AsianDVDGuide, because of the apparent collapse of the similar IVL / Toei line, the more people buying these the better chance for releases beyond these - and for all these to make it out, still plenty of time to pull them you see.

August releases for... Yoshitaro Negishi's 'Story of the Detective' (1983), Shinichiro Sawai's 'Tragedy of W' (1984), Toru Murakawa's 'Ressurection of the Golden Wolf' (1979), Shinichiro Sawai's 'Early Spring Story' (1985), 'G.I. Samurai' (1979), Nobuhiko Obayashi's 'Girl Of Time' (1983), and Kosei Saito's 'The Ninja Wars' (1982). Full Specifications & Artwork are already available at AsianDVDGuide.

September releases for... Masayasu Suo's 'Sumo Do, Sumo Don't' (1992) & 'Fancy Dance' (1988), same Director as 'Shall We Dance?'. Kon Ichikawa's 'The Inugami's' (1976). Shion Sono's 'Suicide Circle' (2002) - well, the R1 USA DVD was a shocker, so this could be good... finally, Yoshikuni Matsunaga 'Kekkon Annai Mystery' (1985).

October releases for... Yasuzo Masamura's 'Blind Beast' & 'Manji', both already out in America on DVD of course, but what about this new subtitled disc for 'A Lustful Man' from 1961? A treat, no? Also out October : 'Ring 0', 'Ring', and 'Ring 2' which are pretty much out everywhere by now.

November releases for... Kenji Mizoguchi's 'Miss Oyu' (1951), 'Ugetsu' (1953 - already out from Criterion in America), 'A Geisha' (1953), 'The Woman of the Rumour' (1954), and 'Sansho the Bailiff' (1954). Great month for fans of the astonishing Mizoguchi.

December release for... Toru Murakawa's 'The Beast To Die' (1980) which looks stunning, Junya Sato's 'Proof of the Man' (1977), Shinji Somai's 'Sailor Suit and Machine Gun' (1981), Kinji Fukasaku's 'Legend of the Eight Samurai' (1983), and Nobuhiko Obayashi's 'The Aimed School' (1981).
