REASONER REVIEWS THE PINK PANTHER CARTOON COLLECTION

Remember when Saturday morning was pink. The milk in the cereal bowl, the ragged synthetic fiber blanket on the basement floor and the sunlight through the smog and cheap wreckroom glass. But nothing was pinker than the Panther. Bugs and company might get the lion share of attention and the Mouse might have his own network. But neither had a cooler strut or a better soundtrack.

The Reasoner offers compelling reasons why you should consider a trip down memory lane or at least introduce yourself and your kids to the spokesman for Owens Corning, Deutsche Telekom and other fine products.

1. You get all 156 Pink Panther cartoons- all of them.

2. The five discs come packaged in a gorgeous white vynil collectors case that is the perfect shelfmate for the black vynil multi-disc set of Pink Panther films. Points off for the gatefold disc on disc presentation but beautiful packaging nonetheless.

3. Any Pink Panther cartoon is better than the new Pink Panther (starring Steve Martin) or Son of the Pink Panther, Curse of the Pink Panther or Trail of the Pink Panther.

4. You also get all of the animated title sequences for the films

5. Your purchase of this set might convinve Sony to release the Ant & Aardvark cartoons

6. The special features really are. Good interviews with all the principle surviving Panther creator's and tons of biographical material on animation legend Friz Freleng.

7. Refocussing Sony's attention onto the classic cartoon may help them to forget the obscene amount of money their rehash just made- or at least help the rest of us ignore the inevitable sequel.

8. The Pink panther has the best use of the laugh track of any animated cartoon.
