I have been eagerly anticipating to hear and see more about a film that I think might very well be one of the surprises in European cinema this year. Joyeux Noël is directed by Christian Carion who has a very special place in my heart. His superb The Girl from Paris proved to me that Carion is a name that will definitely deliver in the future and needless to say Joyeux Noël was selected to debut at this year's Cannes Film Festival. In addition the plot of the film sounds quite promising as well:
On Christmas Eve during World War I German, French, and Scottish soldiers decide to put their differencies away, forget about the war, and play the "beautiful game"- football.
The film features a massive crew of well known European actors: Daniel Bruhl (Goodbye Lenin), Guillaume Canet (Vidocq), Gary Lewis (Gangs of New York), Bernard Le Coq, Benno Furmann (The Princess and the Warrior), etc.
