Oooh ... it's just a rumor at this point, but it's a good one ...
Patrick Macias - who earns at least part of his living putting English subtitles onto Japanese films and thus is privy to all sorts of info on the Japanese biz - is currently attending the Tokyo Anime Fair in Hollywood and has posting some potentially huge rumblings on his personal blog ...
At the very top of the list: Hollywood uber-producer Joel Silver has apparently been chatting up the Studio Gonzo suits about producing a live action version of Last Exile, the ciritcally acclaimed anime show that I'm sure Opus will be along to sing praises for soon. It's all rumor at this point, but Silver certainly knows all the people involved, having worked with the studio previously on The Animatrix, and if someone's got the combination of knowledge and money to bring something like this to life in Hollywood - this would absolutely have to be a big budget project - it's Silver.
Also of note: Samuel L. Jackson will be voicing the lead character in Gonzo's Afro Samurai series (glory!) and Studio4°C - fresh off the brilliant Mind Game - are currently working up a new anthology project with a bunch of the Animatrix directors, including brilliant Cowboy Bebop creator Shinichiro Watanabe as well as a feature film titled Sachiko from Koji Morimoto, who directed The Animatrix's Beyond. No word yet on potential release dates for either project.
