Support Canadian Cinema - The Tracey Fragments and Madame Tutli-Putli Open Today!

While ScreenAnarchy covers films from nearly every corner of the world, the urban cave with which our lord and master dwells is located in the snowy frozen wastes of Canada. The country where (with a few exceptions) much of the talent flocks south of the border to the warm and sunny land of opportunity and handguns to make their movies. Thus, our local industry (outside of Quebec's thriving domestic French cinema) is a fragile thing at times. When two strong and experimental films come along in nearly the same breath our nature to support those strange little films from around the world becomes magnified due to a sense of national cinematic pride.

Hence, we implore you if you are in Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal to head out to the cinemas screening these films on a special double bill. (see below)

The combination of Bruce McDonald's raw shooting style and flashy editing/splitscreen experimenting make The Tracey Fragments required viewing. Another fine performance from rising star Ellen Page and gorgeous soundtrack from Broken Social Scene add up to something quite special. As a bonus, those three screens (below) are also showing the jaw-dropping NFB short Madame Tutli Putli in front of The Tracey Fragments. If Salvadore Dali was giving David Lynch a shiatsu massage during an overnight train ride between Calgary and Vancouver, then this might be the film that takes place just behind the caffeinated ones eyes or the cloud of cigarette smoke in front of him. Stop Motion animation has never looked this good and all the best to the talents of Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski in that department.

Toronto - The Royal - Friday November 2nd
Vancouver - Tinseltown - Friday November 2nd
Montreal - theatre TBC - Friday November 2nd
