Full Trailer For Eric Khoo's TATSUMI

A tribute to the work of celebrated manga artist Yoshihiro Tatsumi by Singaporean director Eric Khoo, Tatsumi is a most unusual film. Using elements from Tatsumi's autobiographical A Drifting Life, and short stories Hell, Beloved Monkey, Just A Man, Occupied, and Good Bye the film is partial fiction and partial biography as based on Tatsumi's own autobiography as brought to life by someone other than Tatsumi. Got that clear in your head?

A huge admirer of Tatsumi's work, Khoo's goal here was to create as accurate a representation of the master's work as possible on screen. The goal was not to interpret, not to adapt, but to take the images on the printed page and bring them to life on screen as Tatsumi created them.

It's an intriguing idea, one that treats the film's director as a conduit rather than a creator, and now comes our first significant chance to see if Khoo has succeeded. The trailer for Tatsumi has just arrived and you can find it below.
