Having already enjoyed a long and prolific career in the television world, Argentinean writer-director Leonardo Bechini has only turned his attention to film recently and based on the trailer for his upcoming dramatic thriller Operacion Mexico, it's hard not to wish he'd made the switch much earlier.
Argentina, summer of 1978. The members of an insurgent organization, Edgar Tulio Valenzuela (Tucho) and Rachel Black (Maria), a pregnant woman with their young child, are kidnapped by the Armed Forces and transferred to the suburbs of Rosario, province of Santa Fe . A senior officer of the argentine Army makes Tucho a proposal , that in order to fulfill it , he ´ll betray the ideals to which he has devoted his life and if he rejects, he ´ll lose his wife and children. They love each other beyond all reason and circumstance. Maria and Tucho make a pact, and in between betrayal and horror, a love story that will last forever is born.
The production values here look absolutely fantastic, capturing the nuance and flavor of the period setting while the story balances out dramatic and thriller elements. It's a very promising trailer, indeed, and you can take a look below.
