Have Your Say: What's Your Guilty Pleasure Anime?

Recently, I saw the first two episodes of the Cat Planet Cuties anime series, and noticed to my surprise that I was having a rather swell time with it. Its story is about a teenage boy who gets visited by voluptuous ditzy catwomen from another planet. As a result he becomes a target for all sorts of security agencies in the world, who send female soldiers, spies and agents to his house to catch, kill or subdue the aliens. As you may have guessed, the series is a so-called "ecchi", and relies heavily on crude sexual fantasy tropes, a harem set-up and gratuitous pantsu shots. But some of the puns are genuinely funny and whenever the action scenes start, there are some admirably loopy twists. At the series best moments, its absurdity and hilarity overcome the offensiveness of its fan-service.

It's something the Japanese seem remarkably adept in: first destroy a charming set-up with grating adolescent moronic lewdness, but then make the resulting rubble almost shine again through technical excellence, interesting designs, and moments of wit. If the Cat Planet Cuties anime keeps the balance of its first two episodes, the series will definitely turn into a guilty pleasure for me.
