STRANGER THINGS Second Season Announced with Mysterious Trailer

Netflix has officially announced that a second season of Stranger Things will arrive sometime in 2017. In keeping with the mysterious tone of the show, the teaser includes nine seemingly disparate title cards, which many assume are episode names. 

Even if folks are correct about the nature of said title cards, it's still fun to imagine what they may be in reference to. They include: "Madmax," "The Boy Who Came Back to Life," "The Pumpkin Patch," "The Palace," "The Storm," "The Pollywog," "The Secret Cabin," "The Brain," and "The Lost Brother."

Let the theorizing begin! 

In an interview with EW following the announcement, the brothers also confirmed that, while characters from season one will return, new characters will be introduced and new towns will be explored. Honestly, this does not surprise me as the first season feels like a mini-series more than a series; it felt dubious that the story of these characters could be sustained in a full second season.  

Stranger Things was created by Matt and Ross Duffer as a love letter to the suburban supernatural films of the '80s. A bewitching blend of Stephen King, Steven Spielberg, and John Carpenter, the series was a surprise hit for the brothers, who had not even considered a second season at the time of its premiere. 

Before Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers had previously directed the stellar post-apocalyptic thriller Hidden and worked as writers on TV's Wayward Pines.
