Na Hong-jin's Blistering Thriller THE WAILING Gets US Trailer And Release Date

Ahead of its premiere this month at the Cannes Film Festival, Na Hong-jin's The Wailing, his follow-up to The Chaser and The Yellow Sea, has been picked up for North American distribution by Well Go USA, which just launched the film's first international trailer.

Starring Kwak Do-won, Hwang Jung-min, Chun Woo-hee and Japanese star Kunimura Jun, the film follows a local cop out of his depth as gruesome and unexplained murders begin to happen in his countryside town. When his daughter falls ill and shows strange symptoms, he brings in a shaman to help.

The Wailing will first bow in Korea on May 11, a day earlier than planned following a strong critical response there, before hitting US screens on May 27. While it's great that fans will get to see it so quickly, it's also a shame that there won't be any time for word of mouth to build after what will surely be a much-buzzed about premiere in Cannes.

For those who have already seen Korean promos, this new trailer adds some clarity but, in my opinion, doesn't quite do the film justice.
