Have Your Say: The Best Story Ever Worth Adapting To Film From A Videogame
Adaptations are often vilified, but few as much as videogame adaptations. On paper such adaptations may seem to make sense: both videogames and movies are highly visual media, and both often have a narrative guiding the viewer. So where's the rub?

Thing is, with films, like books, the narrative is often the point of it all. In videogames, goals are the point of it all, and a narrative is often tacked on to provide the player with these goals. As such, adapting a videogame is harder than it looks, because apart from the setting there is not much you can replicate on film. Playability is hard to convey when watching a movie is basically a pretty passive passtime.

It hasn't stopped studios from trying though. This year we've already seen Ratchet & Clank, Warcraft (reviewed here) and even Angry Birds. Later this year, we can expect an Assassin's Creed film, and some videogame-film-franchises are already being remade (looking at you, Tomb Raider!)... Wise or foolish?

Still, with some games the miracle does happen and you start to feel attached to characters, either by way of what happens to them or by what they make happen to others. Tacked on or not, some games do have stories worth experiencing.

Which brings us to our question of the week: what is your favorite story from a videogame? One which made you wonder how that would look in a cinema? One you'd wish someone would try to adapt?
