Rotterdam 2016 Opens Next Week, Reveals Its Killer Line-up Today
The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) always keeps a tight timeline with regards to revealing its huge programme. While plenty of hints are given from early December onward, it's only one week before the festival opens that the full line-up is made known. And guess what: the festival opens on Wednesday the 27th of January. Which means that the schedule has been released today, and you can see it here.

This year the programme is huge, with 250 features and 250 shorts in it. With new director Bero Beyer running the show, the festival has some changes in its set-up and sections. For the first time in years there is again a section specially dedicated to genre films, and here you can find well-known titles like High-rise and Bone Tomahawk, but also Steve Oram's Aaaaaaah! and Sono Sion's The Whispering Star. Speaking of Sono, as always the IFFR has a strong Asian selection, ranging from Hou Hsiao-Hsien's gorgeous The Assassin to a retrospective on the works of Masao Adachi.

This year the festival runs from the 27th of January till Sunday the 7th of February.
Its on-line ticket sales starts this Friday, unless you have a Tiger Friends pass (a bought reduction card which earns itself back if you're going to watch more than seven films), in which case you can start buying tickets tonight after twelve already, giving you a 24-hour head-start on the masses.

Rest assured we'll be covering the festival, starting with a recommendations gallery later this week!
