Neuchâtel 2016: Festival Debuts Poster And Announces Latin American Retrospective Program
One of Europe's premiere destinations on the film festival circuit the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival unveiled their festival poster today and announced two programs for this year's edition. Billed as the 'Swiss event for Fantastic Film, Asian Cinema and Digital Creation' the festival is gearing up for their 16th edition this July.

First, the nifty poster you see above.

This year's poster was designed by the Neuchâtel-based white - brand design agency, which specializes in product and graphic design since 2003. Thanks to their creative vision and perfect knowledge of the NIFFF, white - brand design were able to create a unifying concept that remains consistent with the festival's identity.

The 2016 poster conjures up an intriguing atmosphere inspired by science fiction iconography, with the notable presence of a particularly spectacular NIFFF spaceship. To get to this result, several techniques now widely used in genre films were relied upon, like 3D modelling, mobile photography, compositing, and photo retouching.

The festival also announced today this year's retrospective program and a new permanent section in their ongoing lineup.

The EL DORADO special program will focus on South American genre cinema. While, at the turn of the millennium, American cinema was forever changed by fundamental contributions from southern artists, such as Guillermo del Toro, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Alfonso Cuarón, Robert Rodriguez, or Walter Salles, a band of young "guerrilla filmmakers" was also working on the development of home-grown fantastic films. Two decades later, South American genre cinema is booming, thanks to internationally recognized quality films. In 2016, the NIFFF will put the spotlight on about twenty of these inventive and spirited productions, divided into two categories: the major films released within the last five years, and the greatest landmarks of the genre.

The permanent new section to their lineup will be called Amazing Switzerland. It "will feature five Swiss genre films (fantastic, action, thriller, etc.), produced within the past three years. This is a permanent development that aims at promoting the Swiss film industry, as well as the artists involved".

Keep an eye out for program announcements as they happen.
