The Many Faces Of Halloween

Today, instead of our regular thespian-of-the-week screenshots quiz, we are going to do something different. Today it is Halloween! First we thought about doing a Michael Myers gallery, like we did with Jason on a Friday the 13th, but... let's face it: Mike isn't as pretty, and there are only so many William Shatner masks you can handle.

Therefore, we will feature a grand number of 26 directors of horror films (because 26 = 2 x 13 and it is Halloween), and we challenge you to identify as many of them as possible! Some will be famous, some will be less famous, some will have done horror exclusively, others may have dabbled a single time, though successfully enough to be remembered for it. Some are prolific, some we wish to be more prolific, and of some we wish they could be more prolific.

What this gallery won't be is comprehensive. Not everyone we like or love will be in it. Remember, it's a quiz, and if your favorite (or you yourself) isn't in it, no slight is intended.

So flick through the images, and see if you recognize who all these people are. No competition, no prizes, just for fun, try to see how far you get!

And I'll reveal the answers next Thursday (with added mini-bios for all, like John Carpenter has below), or earlier if someone gets all of them right.

Michele "Izzy" Galgana, J Hurtado, Shelagh Rowan-Legg and contributed to this story.

And this is John Carpenter. This being Halloween, he had to be our figurehead for this quiz. Few people can boast on having made such a great contribution to genre films as him, scoring many classics in the dozen of years between 1976 and 1988. In that list are films as The Assault on Precinct 13, The Fog, John Carpenter's The Thing, Escape From New York, Prince of Darkness, They Live, Big Trouble in Little China... and of course the seminal slasher Halloween.

(Ok, so three of those titles are probably not horror, according to many. Sue me...)

This picture doesn't count yet for the quiz as I've given the answer already, but all others do, so please browse through the gallery: click on the edge of the picture to get the next one, and see how many of them all you can identify!
