STAR WARS Stand-Alone Finds Its Next Writer
Gareth Edwards' stand-alone Star Wars film has found its next writer. Now that Gary Whitta has had a go at it and moved on, it is now time for writer and director Chris Weitz to take a stab at a new draft.

I will tell you what should be bothering me about this report from THR: It is all the Young Adult (YA) references in it. Weitz has worked on a lot of YA related projects. He directed The Golden Compass and The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and, according to the report, is smack in the middle of writing a PA/YA (Post Apocalyptic Young Adult) trilogy of books starting with The Young World. He also wrote Disney's upcoming Cinderalla. It should be bothering me about it but I have accepted this new reality. I am no longer the target audience for this franchise.

What I also see developing here could very well be a female-centered Star Wars film. What was one of the critcisms when the cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was announced? Where are the ladies? And now, what is some of the first news that we get about this film? Testing of female actors for the film. Weitz has worked on films that have a large female audience of their own.

I think all the pieces are falling into place here for a female-led Star Wars film.
