First TERMINATOR GENISYS Trailer Goes Back To The Future Past
The first trailer for Terminator Genisys follows on the heels of last week's marketing material debuts for Jurassic World (trailer) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (teaser). What all three have in common is nostalgia.

Set to arrive in theaters on July 1, 2015, Terminator Genisys appears to follow the rough outlines of the first movie back in 1984: sometime in the future, John Connor (Jason Clarke) sends soldier Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back in time to protect his mother, Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke). Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as a terminator, both in computerized (more) youthful form and in slightly more realistic aged appearance.

The graphics looks a bit rough as far as the special effects are concerned -- not a surprise in view of the advance nature of the trailer -- and appears to make a concerted effort to reach a millennial fan base that wasn't born when the first movie came out, by drawing on the elements that have been familiar in pop culture, not just "I'll be back" but also multiple T2: Judgment Day references. (For one thing, Sarah Connor's demeanor. For another, the faux-Robert Patrick dead-eye looks of a villainous terminator.)

We'll see how all this plays out next summer. For now, does this trailer fill you with anticipation ... or dread? Or make you heave a giant sigh of "meh"?
