MICGénero 2014 Presents The Lukas Moodysson Retrospective In 35mm

During its ongoing third edition, the International Film Festival with Gender Perspective (MICGénero) is presenting a fantastic retrospective dedicated to Swedish filmmaker Lukas Moodysson, who might be best known in Mexico for directing last year's marvelous punk rock/coming of age movie We Are the Best! 

If you are based in Mexico City, this is a unique chance to explore Moodysson's cinema through 35mm prints of four of his films, plus a Blu-ray screening of We Are the Best! (35mm prints were never made for this film). 

The Lucas Moodysson retrospective starts today, September 17, and ends on Sunday, September 21. All of the screenings are going to take place at Le Cinéma IFAL, located in the Cuauhtémoc borough of Mexico City. Check out the complete schedule (information taken from MICGénero's official catalog):

Show Me Love (Fucking Åmål, 1998, 89 min) 

In Amal, an insignificant town where nothing ever happens, sixteen-year-old Elin has a bad reputation with the boys. She's frustrated that she lives in such a boring place. Agnes is a fourteen-year-old shy girl that has a hard time getting along with others. They meet in Agnes' birthday and together they discover new emotions, forcing them to face their doubts and the prejudices of the people around them.

Together (Tillsammans, 2000, 106 min) 

Stockholm 1975. Elisabeth has just left her alcoholic and abusive husband. She and her kids move with brother, Göran, to a hippie community inhabited by a diversity of characters and their families. During their stay, they discover the importance of sticking together. 

*35mm screenings: Thursday, September 18 (4 PM) & Sunday, September 21 (5 PM)

Lilya 4-Ever (Lilja 4-ever, 2002, 109 min)

Based on a true story. lilja is a young girl from the former Soviet Union, whose mother has abandoned her to move to the United States. She stays with her aunt until Natasha, her best friend, invites her to prostitution to earn some cash. In these circumstances, lilja will meet peope that represent hope in her life. However, the road to survive in the world of human trafficking and sexual slavery will make her know a reality full of tragedies. 

*35mm screening: Thursday, September 18 (6 PM)

A Hole In My Heart (Ett hål i mitt hjärta, 2004, 98 min)

Rickard uses his apartment to make a homemade porn movie, while his son Eric spends the day locked in his room trying not to listen to the noises the actors make. However, during the process the situation spins out of control. The self-proclaimed porn star goes through a period of excess along his partners. Rickard feels that his son doesn't respect him and Eric worries about the way his father treats the woman accompanying him in the film. 

*35mm screening: Friday, September 19 (8 PM)

We Are the Best! (Vi är bäst!, 2013, 102 min)

We are the Best! revolves around three girls in 1980's Stockholm, Bobo, Klara and Hedvig , who decide to form a punk band -- despite not having any instruments and being told by everyone that punk is dead. During this process the three girls explore their friendship and deal with the unberable puberty. Based on a graphic novel by Coco Moodysson. 

*Blu-ray screening: Saturday, September 20 (5 PM)
