GRASSHOPPER JUNGLE: Edgar Wright Set To Direct Film Adaptation

For all of us who wondered about Edgar Wright's film future after his surprising exit from Marvel's Ant-Man back in May, this past week brought us not one but two answers. As our own Ben Umstead reported just last Tuesday, Wright is set to direct Baby Driver for Working Title Films, based on the director's own script.

Now Deadline is reporting, straight from San Diego's Comic-Con, that after Baby Driver, Wright is directing for Sony Pictures the film adaptation of Andrew Smith's 2014 book Grasshopper Jungle. Actually, Wright himself already recommended to his 464k Twitter followers to read Smith's acclaimed book.

EdgarWrightTweet.jpgDeadline's report describes Grasshopper Jungle as "Stand by Me meets Attack the Block." And the official book synopsis reads as follows:

In the small town of Ealing, Iowa, Austin and his best friend Robby have accidentally unleashed an unstoppable army. An army of horny, hungry, six-foot-tall praying mantises that only want to do two things.

This is the truth. This is history.
It's the end of the world. And nobody knows anything about it.
You know what I mean.

Funny, intense, complex, and brave, Grasshopper Jungle brilliantly weaves together everything from testicle-dissolving genetically modified corn to the struggles of recession-era, small-town America in this groundbreaking coming-of-age stunner.

Wright is set to direct from a script by Scott Rosenberg, writer of Beautiful Girls and Con Air, among others. There are no further details, regarding cast or shooting dates.

DISQUS You suck A*** you can have people moderated fer writing swear words but cant block "Start working at home with" and anything.Com at the end of a post.
    Kiss my F*****n A***

  • Ben Umstead

Yes, very sorry. It was much easier on this front with the old comments system. As it goes pretty much every other site that uses DISQUS is experiencing a higher-than-average deluge of "work from home and earn your living in ear goblets" posts

  • Yojimbo

No need fer you to apologise benu not you guys fault, a few times on other sites I have typed a swear word or such and you get asked to wait fer your comment to be moderated.Surely if they have the set up to catch certain trigger words it cannot be a great stretch to do the same to "Start working at home with"

"testicle-dissolving genetically modified corn" Yikes I am now officially coeliac and gluten intolerant and I live atop of a NoLo bait™ factory.
