Aronofsky Adapting Atwood's MADDADDAM Trilogy For HBO Series
Some folk just are not content to flood the world once; Noah director Darren Aronofsky hopes to be at it again. Deadline is reporting that he will be adapting Canadian author Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam book trilogy and turn it into a HBO series. It is also possible that Aronofsky will be directing the series himself. He will be meeting with writers for the adaptation process. Atwood will be a consulting producer for the show.

The story in the MaddAddam books, part of Atwood's self-described genre of "speculative fiction," is set in the mid-21st century in a world where corporations have taken over for governments and the genetic modification of organisms is perversely ubiquitous. It centers on the events before and after a Waterless Flood that wipes out almost all of the world's population and follows an extensive cast of characters, including those responsible for the apocalypse and those struggling to survive it.

If you want to start catching up on your reading- just in case the opportunity presents itself and you can film your friends during those WTF moments, like in that other HBO show, and post them on YouTube- you will start with Oryx and Crake, then Year of the Flood and finish with MaddAddam. I have not read these books either (Bad Canadian! Bad! <slaps own wrist>) I feel compelled to do so now so I will not be one of those caught gaping on camera.
