Nicolas Winding Refn May Direct Hotel Horror Film THE BRINGING
A report today from Deadline suggests that Sony is in talks with Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn to direct a spec script called The Bringing. The script was written by brothers Brandon and Phillip Murphy and drew much attention from bidding studios because it was inspired by an Elisa Lam video (see below).

Lam was a Canadian student who went missing and was later found in one of the water towers atop the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. The video was from a security camera in an elevator in the hotel and it shows Lam acting erratically. Her body was found more than two weeks later. The hotel has its own sordid history apart from that; it was the residence of serial killers Richard Ramirez and Jack Unterweger. There have also been many suicides as well.

Word is Refn, director of Drive and Only God Forgives, sought this project out. Comparisons to Kubrick's The Shining have already started.
