Mexican Sci-Fi Flick MULTIPLIER Goes Ahead With Canadian Support
ScreenDaily is reporting that Mexican and Canadian production companies have inked a deal to co-produce the Mexican science fiction film Multiplier. Velarium Arts, EMAfilms and Filmoption International are teaming up to make Rodrigo Hernandez's short film Protocolo into a feature film. The image above is taken from that short film.

Protocolo is set in a future where cloning machines known as "multipliers" were banned but are still running. They still create clones in an infinite loop that is perpetuated by the security protocol. We have included trailers from his short film below.

Mexican producers Mayra Espinosa Castro and Jorge Michel Grau ('We Are What We Are') of Velarium Arts, Canadian producers Anne-Marie Gélinas and Benoit Beaulieu of EMAfilms and Canadian Distributor Andrew Noble of Filmoption International signed a deal memo yesterday for the co-production of MULTIPLIER from Mexican director Rodrigo Hernandez.

The science fiction feature film, based on PROTOCOL, a short film of the same director, is in development at the moment and will be co-written by a Canadian screenwriter to be confirmed. The principle photography will take place in Mexico in 2015, and the post-production, including the visual effects will be done in Montreal.

The partners originally met during the first edition of Frontières, the international co-production market of Fantasia. They later met at the Baja Market last November and started discussing MULTIPLIER. Andrew Noble of Filmoption joined the project during the Guadalajara market last March, and the team got together yesterday in Cannes to sign a agreement in principle.

Anne-Marie Gélinas is a producer on Turbo Kid which recently wrapped up principle photography in Montreal.
