SXSW 2014 Exclusive: First Look at Nature Docu YAKONA

We mentioned it in our 22 Can't Miss SXSW Titles yesterday, and now we have an exclusive first look clip for you of the SXSW Visions-premiering nature docu Yakona. Directed by Anlo Sepulveda and Paul Collins, Yakona looks like it will take us on an ethereal trip above and below water at the mouth of Texas's UNESCO-designated San Marcos River. The film premieres Saturday at SXSW with an encore presentation Tuesday (more on the SXSW page). Here are a few more words on the film and the video below.

YAKONA is an impressionistic journey down Texas's San Marcos River. The film travels from source to sea, through the changing seasons, interpreting the river's time and memory, and documenting the relationship between ourselves and the natural world. With over 200 springs, the headwaters is one of the longest continually inhabited areas in North America, birthplace of the Coahuiltecan people and currently being petitioned to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. YAKONA uses stunning imagery, dynamic sound design, and an original score to speak directly to the viewer, appealing to humanity's higher nature to protect this ancient sacred place.
