MINERS SHOT DOWN: South African Mining Massacre Doc Premieres At One World Film Festival
Renowned South African documentary producer and director, Rehad Desai, has premiered his second feature, Miners Shot Down, at the 2014 One World Film Festival in Prague. The film revisits events surrounding the August 2012 Marikana mine massacre, during which police opened fire on protesting miners, killing 30. The event shocked South Africa and the world, hearkening back to violence seen during the country's dark history of Apartheid, and raising troubling questions about state power and corporate exploitation.

The film retraces events chronologically, from the build up of tensions to the tragic denouement. Unedited news footage, testimonials and interviews combine to reveal a story quite different from that seen during the events, making this is an important contribution to what may well prove a watershed moment in the history of modern South Africa.

Watch the trailer below, and keep an eye out for the film on the festival circuit.
