Mondo Media Is Relaunching Korean Animation AACHI & SSIPAK
Mondo Media will be relaunching the 2006 Korean animated cult film Aachi & Ssipak! The digital launch (YouTube, iTunes and Google Play) is February 11. The DVD launch is March 11. *

They have enlisted the help of Dick Figures creators Ed Skudder and Zack Keller (reportedly a YouTube sensation?) who have rewritten the script and re-voiced the feature. Yes. It will be dubbed. Check out the trailer below.

Sometime in the future, mankind has depleted all energy and fuel sources, however they have somehow engineered a way to use human excrement as fuel. To reward production, the government hands out extremely addictive, popsicle-like "Juicybars," which in turn also makes them constipated. Aachi and Ssipak are street hoodlums who struggle to survive by trading black market Juicybars. Through a chain of events involving their porn-director acquaintance Jimmy the Freak, they meet wannabe-actress Beautiful, whose defecations are rewarded by exceptional quantities of Juicybars. For that reason, Beautiful is also wanted by the violent blue mutants known as the Diaper Gang (led by the Diaper King), the police (most notably the cyborg police officer Geko), and others.

[Editor's note: Please note the trailer may be region locked depending on your country. Not something we can fix on our end]

* Updated: to clarify launch dates.

This film was a blast in its original form - a shame it didn't get a more legitimate release over here sometime last decade. This dub sounds terrible, but the translation didn't seem TOO far off from what I remember.

i still have the original korean dvd with no eng subs

This is one of the best, perhaps THE best adult animated movie ever made. Sure hope the new dub does it justice.

Obviously not a fan of dubs but I guess if it gives this hidden gem more attention....

The best news is that a new US Blu-ray release will follow this in March as well.

I'll wait for confirmation it's not cut before ordering. While the presence of the original Korean audio track in the Amazon description is encouraging, the absence of four minutes from the running time in the same description (86 minutes -vs- 90 minutes) is a deal breaker. To be fair, all the other sites I checked which are claiming a 90 minute running time could be pulling their info from IMDB and/or Wikipedia, who are both frequently wrong.

As seems to be the case here. Checking on an anime torrent site that I won't name for obvious reasons, the running time is given as 87 minutes - which seems more like either Amazon or the unnamed torrent site is rounding times incorrectly.

"Rewritten the script"? I don't like the sound of that. The original rules.

Ard VijnFebruary 10, 2014 8:07 PM

That's strange, I have an original Korean DVD WITH Eng subs.

owenFebruary 12, 2014 4:24 AM

Yeah no subs with mine same with the "classic" Revenge of the little match girl ;)

Whoever drew this must have been high AND dropping, all at the same time.

Grady Hendrix says, writing at Film Comment: "Although the movie looks better than ever, Mondo Media cut four minutes from the film and replaced the entire soundtrack." So yeah, so much for that.

Not sure about the four minutes being cut (I don't notice anything obvious missing, could be the end credits maybe?) but the dub is... not to my taste. And I'm being extremely polite here. It's a shame too as the Video Quality is great enough to bring tears to my eyes.
