Rotterdam 2014: It's Awards Time!

This weekend saw the end of the 2014 edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, and we can make a tally of all the awards. First and foremost among these are the Hivos Tiger Awards, given to directors only for either their first or second feature, but there were plenty of others to be had as well.
Here is the list:


Hivos Tiger Awards:
This year the Tigers (and the accompanying 15,000 EUR each) go to the three gentlemen above. From left to right:
Ikeda Akira - The Anatomy of a Paperclip
Ester Martin Bergsmark - Something Must Break
Lee Su-jin - Han Gong-ju


The FIPRESCI Award:
This is an international film critic award, and it goes to Uruphong Raksasad for The Songs of Rice.


The KNF Award:
This is the Dutch film critic award, and it goes to Alejandro Fernández Almendras for To Kill A Man.


The MovieZone Award:
This a "young people" critic award, of which the jurors are historically rather astute at picking lasting talent. This year they choose Riad Sattouf for his hilarious Jacky au Royaume des Filles.


The Big Screen Award:
This is a prize for recent films without distribution in Belgium, Luxembourg and The Netherlands, meant to allow these to be sufficiently promoted to find a buyer. The winner this year is Oxana Bychkova for her film Another Year.


The NETPAC Award:
This prize is for the best Asian film at the festival, chosen by the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema. This year the winner is Prasanna Jayakody for his film 28.


Then there were was the voice of the audience: the UPC Audience Award went to Alexander Payne's Nebraska (more about that later), while the Dioraphte Award, for the highest rated Hubert Bals funded film, went to Anup Singh for Qissa.
