THE RAID 2 Trailer: One Cop Vs. The Entire Underworld (And Then Some)

Here's the U.S. trailer for an upcoming action movie from Indonesia, a sequel entitled The Raid 2. You might have heard about it. The film will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival tonight, and we expect to hear some more from Utah at that time.

As a reminder, here's the official synopsis:

He thought it was over. After fighting his way out of a building filled with gangsters and madmen - a fight that left the bodies of police and gangsters alike piled in the halls - rookie Jakarta cop Rama thought it was done and he could resume a normal life. He couldn't have been more wrong.

Formidable though they may have been, Rama's opponents in that fateful building were nothing more than small fish swimming in a pond much larger than he ever dreamed possible. And his triumph over the small fry has attracted the attention of the predators farther up the food chain. His family at risk, Rama has only one choice to protect his infant son and wife: He must go undercover to enter the criminal underworld himself and climb through the hierarchy of competing forces until it leads him to the corrupt politicians and police pulling the strings at the top of the heap.

And so Rama begins a new odyssey of violence, a journey that will force him to set aside his own life and history and take on a new identity as the violent offender "Yuda." In prison he must gain the confidence of Uco - the son of a prominent gang kingpin - to join the gang himself, laying his own life on the line in a desperate all-or-nothing gambit to bring the whole rotten enterprise to an end.

The film opens in U.S. theaters on March 28. In the meantime, enjoy the trailer.

I love Gareth because his films look beautiful. Well shot, good camera work. There's something more than just the action.

  • Mad_Dog_Yayan

Come to me 28th of March!
Man, Cecep Arif Rahman look badass with the karambit. Can't wait to see him fight Iko

What's so sad is that THIS Is what Jaa's films could have looked like now. Instead, I feel like Tony Jaa just gave up. A quick aside, when "The Protector" came out I went to a demonstration that Tony Jaa gave at a Dojo in NYC as part of a publicity campaign. In person the skills he demonstrated were just monstrous, and I have the video to prove it. It crushes me to see that he wasted all that incredible potential he once had. What a waste of talent. Now, I look to Iko Uwais as the next great hope in martial arts.

based on the skills range, iko uwais doesnt hold a candle to jaa. his moves are limited to penchak silat while jaa can comfortably cross from muay thai to taekwondo to even capoeira moves.

I found the first trailer of raid 2 brilliant, but the last 2 promos have been underwhelming. it seems to be too overplotted for its own good like 1 did not work due to any plot but the action scenes.

I said this before and I still stand by it: we should wait and see before making judgements on Tony Jaa's career.

I am absolutely planning on, at the very least, to see Tom-Yum-Goong 2 in theaters (if it gets a theatrical release where I live). And I sure as well will buy it on 3D Blu-ray!

I think Tony Jaa has learned his lesson from the debacles of Ong-Bak 2 and (the never intended but necessary to make back lost money Ong-Bak 3.

Keep in mind that he also has several film projects coming up that should really boost his career and further expose his amazing on-screen talent. F&F 7, SPL 2, and 2 films with Dolph Lundgreen, A Man Will Rise and Skin Trade (currently filming).

But with said said, Iko Uwais is absolutely amazing. I hope to catch this in theaters. But if not, day 1 blu-ray buy for me!

Iko Uwais won't be this big if he never met Gareth Evans.. maybe Tony Jaa needs to find a good/ compatible director.
I wonder what will happens if somehow Iko Uwais and Tony Jaa appear in one movie, that'd be ultra badass.

  • Ole Rur

and so does mr.evans he wont ever be this big if he never met iko and yayan etc dude this is not in the case of who the hell is good

  • justpassingby

I completely agree with you on that account, sorry if I didn't make it clearer.
What I'm saying was that Tony Jaa need someone to help him put his martial art into a better movie.

This trailer transports you back through time, to the year of 1990-something. Where you stand before the altar of the action section of your local videostore, where 'straight to video' wasn't an insult...they just legitimately wanted kids to experience murder-boners. The taste of cheap windowlean and huffy sweet scent of a makeshift cornpopper. Another weekend, another pilgrimage on the couch to the land of flexing so hard you'd break your sister's doll's neck if it were actually alive. You're getting on that train to Goon Town and you will extinct the tar out of every last one of them. All you hafta do is choose the burly man who's gonna pay for your ticket.

Jealous of you Sundancers - enjoy it.

  • Z. LaPorte Airey

    that was beautiful

  • Andrej Tsukamoto

we need the new red band trailer asap!

  • tman418

Agreed. I wonder if this movie will also be censored a bit like the first one, to achieve an "R" rating.

Or even worse, a PG-13 rating!!

Also, I wonder if the score will yet again be changed by some American techno-artist wannabe?

  • CHUD

    This trailer could cure impotence.

  • dee dee widjanarko

    oh shiiiiiiiit!!!!!

  • Oh my.
